our story

How it started

It was just a joke, seriously!

It all started as a joke back around 2016 when Tony brought home 2 roosters in a cage in the back of his car. That lead to chickens, eggs, incubating to see what we could do on our own and for a learning experience for our son. Fast forward to 2018 – Tony leaves for work one morning stating, “In 2 weeks, we will be goat farmers.”

If looks could kill……. He brings home these 2 goats (1 boy, 1 girl of course) and says, “Happy Mother’s Day! Look I taught them to say Maaaa.” Of course once you look at their cute faces you fall for them. Then he tells me, “They are dairy goats, so you can milk them.” My response was not pleasant as I tell him I’m not milking no dang goats.

How was your 2020?

then THE PANDEMIC HITS

Jump to 2020 and the pandemic hits. Guess what we are out in the barn doing after babies have arrived. Yep you guessed it, milking the darn goats. So off to YouTube I go to find out what I can make with this milk and how to process it. We didn’t feel we could drink all the milk we produced, so my idea list grew! Lotions were the first adventure. Then on to the food side with some farmers cheese and caramel sauce. Truth be told the list of things to try is still huge!

Family Run

real life experiences for our kids

As if raising 2 kids and the animals wasn’t enough, we both had full time jobs to support the habit! Yes we found ourselves coming and going. We got up at 4 am during milking season in order to get that all done and cleaned up before we got the kids ready for school and headed off to work. But to have that quiet time in the barn and to watch the babies grow is actually what gets you through some days until you come home and do the nightly milking and chores.

The learning experience for our kids is a big deal and always present. From breeding time, to kidding & lambing, to sickness and death it is always a way to show that we are just part of the plan. Our son has helped lambs be born, both kids have watched the joy and excitement of birth and it never becomes dull. Unfortunately on the flip side we have experienced death more times than we would like and even the hard decision to say good bye.

Now we are here

FARMER TONY RUNS THE SHOW

We make plans and God laughs. 2021 was a rough year that opened our eyes to the fact that we for sure are not in control! Tony was born with a vision impairment that could not be fixed. He adapted from a young age and has been successful at over coming many obstacles. His vision started to decline in 2020 and we started to look for answers, options and ideas. Riding the razors edge for years – not bad enough to be disabled but not good enough to excel – had taken its toll and it was time to face the cards we had been dealt. Tony officially entered into “early retirement” after 6 years as a wind turbine tech.

Now he answers to Farmer Tony and will be running the farm. He will (hopefully) be the main care taker for the livestock while doing other various things. We anxiously look forward to this new journey ahead of us and welcome you to travel with us.

Moving forward

Adjusting to change

As we start adjusting to our new norm, we still don’t know what that means. We are searching for ways to grow, expand and learn. Discovering the hurry up & wait line is more true than not these days. Learning that you can’t control everything (or everyone) is frustrating some days.  But we are here and we will keep doing our thing until we can’t anymore.

The end of 2022 brought us opportunities, in abundance! We purchased a distressed property that added a rental house and 2.5 acres of pasture. Just as the ink dried, the opportunity we had been hoping to have for over 16 years presented itself. So of course we jumped on it……hesitantly and very aware of life, environment, and economy. So now we proudly have 17 acres for our herd. Plenty of work ahead as always!
